We eagerly anticipate Tony’s return for his 5th trip to the Casa.

We are honored to have master watercolor plein air painter and veteran international watercolor instructor Tony Van Hasselt make the Casa his Annual Tropical Escapaint.
Tony is one of the first art workshop pioneers starting “Painting Holidays”, an international workshop agency in 1963. He is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and has won numerous awards.

His work has been featured in magazines such as Southwest Art, American Artist, and Australian Artist and on the covers of The Artists Magazine and Watercolor Magic as well as eight art instruction books. Tony first authored A Studio Visit, followed by Outdoor Watercolor Workshop, (Watson- Guptill). He has co-authored The Watercolor Fix It Book and Painting with the White of your Paper, (North Light) with Judi Wagner. He is a regular contributor to Watercolor Magic, The Artists Magazine and the Dutch Magazine Palet en Tekenstift.

After a day out painting at exotic locations, Tony and participants return to the Casa’s magnificent open air studio. In the studio, Tony talks on various painting principles, demos techniques and offers constructive feed back on participants work through suggested cropping and by painting on wet media acetate placed over the participants painting. This video was recorded during last years workshop at the Casa, when Tony used creative cropping to create a 2fer – 2 paintings out of 1.
