Amit Kapoor, March 14 – 21, 2026, Playing with Light and Shadow

Join us for an inspirational week as we welcome one of Indias’ premier watercolor painters, Amit Kapoor, to the Casa! Playing with Light and Shadow, an amazing week of growth and fun with renown watercolor painter,
Amit Kapoor.

There is good reason Amit Kapoor is in constant demand for solo exhibitions, workshops and instruction. His art captures the very soul of his subjects with passion.

When I was teaching at the last two PACE events, (Plein Air Convention and Expo), in the Smokey Mts. and Lake Tahoe/Reno, I had the distinct pleasure of watching two of Amrits’ demos on the watercolor stage and then have time to hang out a bit together. His exceptional drawing skills and extraordinary abilities and expert communication, along with a sense of humor, make him an excellent instructor.

In this workshop Amit will share with you his process for  simplifying complicated scenes. You will learn about painting harbors, boats and reflections in water. He will share with you the fundamentals of composition, (the Golden Rules), understanding the source of light and the creation of light and shadow in your paintings.

From the Casa open air studio, with 180º views of mountains, river, village and ocean, Amrit will teach you about various elements and properties for creating powerful paintings: using perspective, choosing “camera angles” and views, staging and posing the elements along with line of action in the figures. Each day expect 2, step by step painting demonstrations where Amrit discuses his process and explains his decisions to you.

Join Amrit for the best art workshop vacation of your life, painting in a charming fishing village inspired by exotic locations along the gorgeous Pacific coast of Mexico!

We will be painting both in the Casa open air studio, with views of the mountains, village and ocean as well as on location at inspirational places: We will visit the award winning Puerto Vallarta Botanical Gardens where we will have the bottom of their Hacienda Restaurant to use as a temporary studio, after sketching in the morning they will prepare us a wonderful lunch and then more art play in the afternoon, (perhaps after a quick siesta on one of their lounge chairs overlooking the mountains).

Another day we will take a boat trip to explore the gorgeous coastline, (witnessing a wonderful display of atmospheric perspective) and arrive at a wonderful beach for picnic and sketching, (swimming or snorkeling anyone?). At each location Amrit will share his wisdom, insights and mastery to help you capture your intention while painting on location.  Immerse yourself in the joys of authentic Mexican village life at one of the most beautiful and arts oriented locales in Latin America, Casa de los Artistas, in the serene village of Boca de Tomatlan, 10 miles south of Puerto Vallarta.
