Dave Santillanes, View West from the Casa Studio, oil painting demo

Hours: Monday and Tues., 5 hours per day
Pacific time: 9am to 11:30 & 12:30 – 3:00pm
(1 hour break for lunch/siesta)
Central Time 11am to 1:30pm & 2:30pm – 5pm
Eastern Time: 12Noon to 2:30pm & 3:30pm – 6pm

Whether painting outdoors or working in the studio, the primary focus of Daves’ workshops are for participants to learn how to simplify a landscape as well as interpreting color relationships to develop atmo- sphere. Other fundamental concepts will also be discussed, including the importance
of values, shapes and edges. Artists will learn to analyze the information they gathered in the field or from photographs, interpreting color and value relationships in order to create depth in a landscape painting.

Day 1: We’ll begin with a slideshow and lecture on color and composition which has become very popular among my workshop students and serves as the foundation for my instruction.  Then we’ll take a break for lunch before I do a live “paint-along” demo.  I’ll send reference material before the workshop begins and artists will be encouraged to paint along with me.
Day 2: we’ll start off with another “paint-along” demo in the morning and in the afternoon we’ll have an informal critique with questions and answers, (and perhaps a few margaritas). Dave will share with the group valuable information as well as give you helpful feedback to bring your painting inline with your intentions.

Dave has been painting outdoors for almost 20 years, learning from his environment to become a nationally recognized landscape painter. His work has been featured in Plein Air Magazine, (Where he recently won their top prize for landscape painting!) and Southwest Art Magazine and he is a signature member of American Impressionist Society and Oil Painters of America.
